Oct 12 - Wiltshire - Corsham

We start the day at one of our favourite coffee haunts - The Glove Factory in Holt.

After breakfast, a short drive to Chalfield Manor in Wiltshire and then dinner at Mother Wild in Corsham

I am going to insert Francis' narrative from her FB page to describe our next National Trust property.

Breakfast at the Glove Factory followed by a quick visit to Great Chalfield Manor - well quick may not be the correct word lol!
We generally like to tour these kind of places by ourselves, at our own speed. We made a joke before going that if we had to have a tour guide, we hoped that he/she wouldn’t like to hear the sound of their own voice. Well we had to take a tour and 40 minutes later, all we had done was step inside one room with all the rest of the house yet to see! His style of presentation was very like the teacher in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off……anyone, anyone? OMG!
To make matters even worse, the only entry and exit is with the tour guide who happily shows you that the lock on the doors is a sliding wooden bar that extends across the entire width of the door and into the sides of the door’s framework.
Needless to say 3 of us made our escape when the next tour guide who had been patiently waiting outside with the next group for over a half hour, unbolted the door wondering if they could come in. Bruce, Katrina and I flew out while Alex bravely and somewhat hesitantly, desired to see and know more about this very old and interesting manor house.
Almost two hours later he emerged happy to be free of Edward but having been able to share photos to the rest of us while we toured the gardens, the church and enjoyed a hot cup of earl grey tea and some biscuits. We can laugh about it now but oh my lord, it was an endurance trial, sadly!
