We start our morning with breakfast in Woodbridge at the Wild Strawberry cafe.
Our two destinations today are Sutton Hoo and Snape Maltings.
In June 1939, archaeologists painstakingly brushed away layers of sandy soil to reveal the shape of a ship beneath a mound. In the centre of the ship, they found a burial chamber full of the most extraordinary treasures. It turned out to be an Anglo-Saxon royal burial of incomparable richness, and would revolutionize the understanding of early England.
After breakfast, we pass by the lovely St Mary's Church in the center of town and take a quick tour.
Down the A12 a few miles from Woodbridge we arrive at Sutton Hoo for a tour of the Mounds and the interactive visitor center that gives details of the historical background and the many archeological digs that have taken place here since the 18th Century
Snape Maltings is a post-industrial port village that has been re-purposed as an entertainment and boutique shopping hub. The history of the Snape Maltings is available here
