Day Three of our Cotswolds Road Trip:
1 hr drive to Milton Keynes and a tour of Bletchley Park
On our way back, we pass thru Stratford and stop to tour Anne Hathaways Family Home ( wife of William Shakespeare )
Dinner back at 1 Home Farm
Bletchley has always been a goal of mine to tour and see the site where the Codebreakers worked.
Since my Dad worked as a radio transmitter/operator in WWll on the west coast of Canada and then post war at Camp X - the site where Allied spies were trained and continued to be an essential defence during the Cold War, I wanted to see where they broke the Enigma code and built the first "monster" computing devices called Bombes to crunch the millions of encrypted code possibilities created by the Enigma machines..
| Break for lunch in Hut 4 - Canteen |
| 12 huts and brick coding buildings restored and set up as working spaces as they would have been during the war |
It is here that Anne was born and raised and where the young Shakespeare would have visited her during the early part of their relationship. Built more than 500 years ago and extended over the years, much of the original survives. We saw original furniture including the Hathaway bed and uncovered five centuries of stories of the family who lived here for 13 generations.
